How to Make Money Online Selling Your Skills on Fiverr
If you have ever looked for ways to make money online, you have probably come across Fiverr. It has been around for years and has become one of the better-known websites for people looking to buy and sell services online. What I find interesting about Fiverr is that you don’t necessarily need a big business or a large amount of money to get started. If you have a skill that somebody else is willing to pay for, you potentially have something you can sell. That could be writing, graphic design, video editing, website work, social media management, voiceovers, translation or many other services. With artificial intelligence also becoming a much bigger part of online business, there are now even more ways people can use their existing skills alongside AI to provide services.
So, in this article, I’m taking a look at Fiverr, how it works, what you can sell, how Fiverr gigs work and whether it could be worth considering if you’re looking for a way to make money online.
What is Fiverr?
Fiverr is an online marketplace that connects people who need services with freelancers who provide those services. The person selling the service creates an offer, known as a gig, and customers can then find and purchase that service through the Fiverr platform. The idea is pretty straightforward. You have something you can do, somebody else needs that job done, and Fiverr provides the marketplace where the two can meet.
I actually like the simplicity of the idea because you don’t necessarily need to build a website, find your own payment system or spend months trying to find your first customer. You create your Fiverr seller profile, set up your services and start building your presence on the platform. Of course, that doesn’t mean customers will suddenly start appearing. Like anything online, you still have to put the work in.

What can you sell on Fiverr?
One of the things I like about Fiverr is the huge variety of services available. There are freelancers offering writing, graphic design, video editing, animation, programming, website development, digital marketing, SEO, social media services, voiceovers and much more. You can also find people offering business-related services, research, virtual assistance and other forms of online support.
This means there is potentially an opportunity for people with very different skills. You don’t necessarily need to be a professional programmer or designer either. Perhaps you’re good at writing, maybe you understand social media, maybe you’ve spent years building websites, or perhaps you’re good at creating presentations. These are all skills that could potentially be turned into a service.
Take A Peak:
Can beginners make money on Fiverr?
This is probably the question most people want answered. Can you actually make money on Fiverr if you’re starting from scratch? The honest answer is yes, but I wouldn’t expect it to happen overnight. There are a lot of sellers on Fiverr, so you are going to have competition. That’s something you need to accept before getting started.
You need to create a service that people actually want, present it properly and build some credibility. Your first few orders may take time. You may also need to experiment with your pricing and the type of services you offer. That’s normal. I’ve always believed that building an online income takes time. There are plenty of people who want to find something they can start today and make money from tomorrow, but that’s generally not how it works. Fiverr can provide the marketplace, but you still have to provide the service.
Finding the right Fiverr gig
If I was starting on Fiverr today, I wouldn’t simply create a gig because I thought it sounded interesting. I’d first look at what people are actually buying. That doesn’t mean copying somebody else’s gig. It means doing some research and looking at the services available to see what customers are searching for.
You may find a popular service that you can offer in a slightly different way. Perhaps you have experience with a particular type of business or industry, and that could give you an advantage. The key is finding the balance between something people want and something you can actually deliver well.
Using AI with Fiverr
This is where things get particularly interesting. Artificial intelligence has changed many areas of online business, and freelancing is no different. AI tools can potentially help freelancers with certain parts of their work. For example, a writer might use AI to brainstorm ideas or create an initial outline. A marketer might use AI to generate ideas for campaigns, while someone working with social media might use AI to help develop content ideas.
But I wouldn’t recommend simply using AI to create something and sending it to a customer without checking it. Your customer is paying you for a service, and they expect quality.
AI can be a useful assistant, but you still need to know what you’re doing. I think the people who learn how to use AI properly alongside their existing skills could have an advantage. Instead of AI replacing your skill, you can use it to make your skill more efficient.
Fiverr and freelance work online
One of the biggest attractions of Fiverr is that it gives people access to freelance work online. You don’t necessarily have to work for one company or have a traditional employer. You can build up a collection of customers and offer different services depending on your skills. I also think Fiverr can be really useful for beginners because it gives you the opportunity to learn, gain experience and build your confidence.

For some people, freelancing could eventually become a full-time business. For others, it may simply be a way to earn some extra money around an existing job or other commitments. I think that flexibility is one of the reasons online freelancing has become so popular. You can start small, learn as you go and see where it takes you.
How much can you make on Fiverr?
This is where you need to be realistic. There isn’t one fixed amount that everybody can make on Fiverr. Some freelancers may make relatively small amounts from occasional orders, while others have built substantial businesses around their services.
Your income will depend on your skills, your pricing, the demand for your service, the amount of competition and how much work you are prepared to put in. I wouldn’t start with the mindset of making thousands of dollars immediately. I’d start by getting your first customer, then your second and then your third. Build from there. Getting your first few positive reviews can be important because customers want to know that you can deliver what you promise.

Building your Fiverr reputation
Your reputation is important on any freelance marketplace. If you do a good job, communicate properly with customers and deliver your work on time, you are giving yourself a better chance of receiving positive feedback.
Don’t promise something you can’t deliver. That’s one of the biggest mistakes I think beginners can make. It can be tempting to offer everything just to get an order, but if you can’t deliver the quality the customer expects, you could end up with an unhappy customer. Start with something you know you can do well and, as you gain experience, you can expand your services.
Is Fiverr worth trying?
I think Fiverr is worth looking at if you have a skill that you can turn into a service. The great thing is that you don’t need to build everything from scratch. The marketplace is already there, and there are already customers looking for freelancers. There are already people selling services. You simply need to work out where you fit.
But I wouldn’t look at Fiverr as an easy way to make money. There is a difference between something being accessible and something being easy. Getting started may be relatively straightforward, but building a successful Fiverr business is another matter. You’re going to have competition, and you’re going to need to stand out.
What I like about Fiverr
For me, the biggest advantage is that Fiverr gives ordinary people an opportunity to sell their skills online. You don’t need a huge office, and you don’t necessarily need expensive equipment. You need a skill, a service people want and the willingness to put the work in.
I also like the fact that you can start small. You don’t have to quit your job and suddenly become a full-time freelancer. You could start with a few hours a week and see how things develop. If you start getting more orders, you can then decide whether you want to take it further.
What I don’t like about Fiverr
The competition is probably the biggest downside. There are a lot of freelancers using Fiverr, and some sellers are willing to charge very low prices. That can make things difficult when you’re starting out.
But I wouldn’t automatically try to compete by being the cheapest. There will always be somebody willing to charge less. Instead, I’d concentrate on providing a good service and explaining why somebody should choose you. Your experience, communication and quality of work can all make a difference.
My final thoughts on Fiverr
So, would I recommend looking at Fiverr if you’re interested in making money online? Yes, I think it is worth investigating, but I’d go into it with realistic expectations. Fiverr isn’t a magic money-making system, and simply creating a gig doesn’t guarantee that customers will come running.
You need to research what people want, create a good service, present yourself professionally and deliver quality work. The good thing is that you can start small. If you already have a skill that businesses or individuals need, why not see whether there is a market for it?
And if you are learning new skills, including AI, digital marketing, website creation or content creation, you could potentially turn those skills into services as well. The online world is changing all the time, and I think there are more opportunities today for people to take their skills and turn them into an online income.
Fiverr is one platform that can help you do that. I’m not saying it will make you rich. I’m saying it gives you another option. And sometimes that’s all you need when you’re looking for a way to start.
My advice is simple: find something you’re good at, find out whether people are willing to pay for it, start small and see where it takes you.
